In Excel, you can mix the Randbetween and Date function to create random date, please do as follows:

1. Select a cell that you want to insert a random date, and enter this function: =RANDBETWEEN(DATE(2013, 1, 1),DATE(2013, 3, 1)).

Note: in the function, (2013, 1, 1) is the starting date, and (2013, 3, 1) is the ending date, you can replace them as you need.

2. Then press Enter key, it displays a five-digit number in the cell, and you need to convert this format to the date format.

3. Select the cell, and right-click, choose Format Cells from the context menu, see screenshot:

4. And in the Format Cells dialog box, click Number tab, and select Date from the Category, then select a date format you need from the Type drop-down list. See screenshot:

5. Click OK, the number has been converted to the normal date format. Then click the cell and drag the fill handle over to the range that you want to fill with random date. And the date has been generated randomly. See screenshot:

Merging CSV Files without Excel

his is a trick which can save you a lot of time when working with a dataset spread across multiple CSV files. Using a simple CMD command it is possible to combine all the CSV’s into a single entity ready for all your pivot and table wizardry.

Step 1

Save all of the CSV files into a single folder. Make sure that the folder is free from any CSV’s you do not want included in the compression.

Step 2

Navigate to “Run” from the Windows Start Menu

• On XP this is located in the Start Menu itself
• In Vista / Win 7 you may have to navigate first to “Accessories” to find the Run executable.

Type “cmd” into the executable field and hit Enter.

Step 3

When the CMD window opens; you will be presented with your default document folder housing all of your personal files. From here you need to execute the “cd” command which navigates to your desired folder. Type “cd” after the chevron followed by a space then your desired folder location including the drive architecture. For example if your cmd window opens with “C:\Users\Your Name>” pre-populated, the complete command line would read: “C:\Users\Your Name>cd C:Desired Folder”.

Top Tip – if you navigate to your desired folder in Windows Explorer (e.g. clicking My Documents from the Desktop) you can see the folder location path in the top of the window. However, don’t close it – you cannot copy & paste into CMD so you will need to type the folder path out!

Step 4

Once you have entered the command line and hit Enter, the desired folder location will appear on the subsequent line. Now you need to use the “copy” function to merge all the CSV files together. In a similar fashion to the “cd” command, type “copy” after the chevron, followed by a space then “combine.csv”. This copies the data from all CSV files in that location into a single file called ‘combine.csv’.

Top Tip: Because the CSV file format cannot support multiple tabs all of your data will be copied into one worksheet within the CSV workbook. For this reason it may be worth collating all your data in a similar structure – so as to avoid large amounts of formatting work at the end.

Step 5

Once executed you will be presented with confirmation; outlining which files have been copied into a single entity. Navigate to your destination folder and enjoy the fruits of your CSV-based labour in combine.csv!

Distinct Values from Excel

Some time we may have some requirement to extract the distinct values from an excel column. There is no direct formulas to do that. Instead of that we can do this in 2 ways. one is through a simple VB code and the second one is through Advanced Filter. This is applicable for Excel 2007 and higher versions as of my knowledge.

Solution 1: VB Program:

1. Press Alt + F11 to open VB editor window

2. Go to Insert menu >> Module

3. Copy and paste the below vba code into the window

 Here it takes the distinct values from Column B and writing into Column D. Change accordingly.

 

 

Solution 2: Advanced Filter:

 

1. Go to Data tab in the menu
2. In Sort and Filter box, Click Advanced button 
3. Choose "Copy to another location"
4. In "List range :" box, select a range from which unique values need to be extracted (including header)
5. In "Copy to :" box, select a range in which final output to be put
6. Check Unique records only
7. Click Ok

 

Number of rows in Excel 2007

By Default we can able to see only 65536 rows in a New Excel work book in Excel 2007. But according to MSDN, we should be able to see 1 million (10Lakh) rows in Excel 2007. To utilize the maximum, open a new work book save as Excel format (XLSX). Now important think is Close and reopen the book, you can able to see more than 1 million rows in that.

How to Export to CSV file with Delimiters other than Comma

In earlier version of Excel (before Excel 2010) we dont have an option to select the delimiter to save the file as CSV. Only a user can save with comma delimiter or space delimiter.

however if you have a requirement to create a Pipe Delimited or & delimited csv files, you can do it by following the below steps.

This will work only for Windows 7 / XP and MS Office 2007 packages.

1. Close your Excel
2. Navigate to control panel, Select ‘Region and Language’
3. Click the ‘Additional Settings’ button
4. Find the List separator and change it from a comma to your preferred delimiter such as a pipe (|).
5. Exit Control panel
6. Open the Excel file you want to export to a pipe delimited file
7. Select File, Save As
8. Change the ‘Save as type’ to ‘CSV (Comma delimited)(*.csv)’
9. Change the name and file extension if you want, by default stays as csv even though a different delimiter
10. Click Save
11. Click OK
12. Click Yes

சென்ற பதிவில் செங்கல்பட்டு முதல் திருச்சி வரை யான ரெட்டை ரயில் பாதை பணிகளை அறிந்தோம். இப்போது திருச்சி முதல் கன்னியாகுமரி வரையிலான ரெட்டை ரயில் பாதை பணிகளை அலசுவோம். 

சென்னை முதல் கன்னியாகுமரி வரையில் அதிக தூரம் ரெட்டை பாதை இருப்பது மதுரை முதல் திண்டுகல் வரையான பகுதி. இந்திய விலேயே டிராபிக் இன்டெக்ஸ் அதிகம் உள்ள பகுதியாக மாறி  , பல தடைகளுக்கு இடையே ரெட்டையாகப்பட்ட பாதை. அதற்கு முன்னால் சுமார் நெரிசல் மிகுந்த நேரங்களில், இரண்டு மணி நேரத்திற்கும் மேலாக பயண நேரம் எடுத்த பகுதி இது. ஆனால் இப்போது ஒரு மணி , பத்து நிமிடங்களில் செல்ல முடிகிறது. 

ஆனால் திண்டுக்கல் முதல் திருச்சி வரையிலான பகுதியில் எந்த வித முன்னேற்றமும் இல்லாமல் இருக்கிறது. ஒரே ஒரு அறுதல் என்ன வென்றல் , இந்த பகுதியை ரெட்டை பாதையாக மாற்ற நிதி ஒதுகபட்டுளது என்பது மட்டுமே. ஆனால் இந்த நிதி , அரியலூர் - வாளாடி இடையே பணிகள் விரைவு படுத்த பட்டுள்ளதால் , அங்கு செலவிடப்படும் என்று நினைக்கின்றேன் . இந்த பாதையிலும் சில பகுதிகள் பாறைகள் மிகுதியை இருப்பதால் பணிகள் தொடங்கவும் முடியவும் அதிக காலம் எடுக்கும். 

சென்னை முதல் திண்டுக்கல் வரை இப்போது மின் மயமாக்கம முடிவு அடைந்திருப்பதால் இப்போது பாண்டியன் எக்ஸ்பிரஸ், வைகை எக்ஸ்பிரஸ், சில நாள்களில் நெல்லை எக்ஸ்பிரஸ், முதுநகர் எக்ஸ்பிரஸ் ஆகிய ரயில்கள் மின்சார என்ஜின் கொண்டு இயக்க படுகின்றன.இது குறைந்த அளவு நேரம் குறைவதோடு , சத்தமும் குறைகிறது. திண்டுக்கல் தாண்டி தெற்கு நோக்கி செல்லும் ரயில்கள் திண்டுக்கலில் என்ஜின் மாற்றி செல்கின்றன. இது தான் தெற்கு ரயில்வே மதுரை கோட்டத்தில் முதன் மின் பாதை.

மதுரை - திண்டுக்கல் பாதை ரெட்டையாக்க பட்டதால் சென்னை செல்லும் ரயில்கள் மட்டும் அல்லது, தூத்துக்குடி - மைசூர் எக்ஸ்பிரஸ், கோவை - நாகர்கோயில் எக்ஸ்பிரஸ் ஆகியவற்றின் பயண நேரமும் குறைந்துள்ளது. 

மதுரையில் இருந்து விருதுநகர் வரையிலான பகுதி இப்போது ரயில் நெரிசல் அதிகம் உள்ள பகுதியாக மாறி உள்ளது. இதன் மூலம் புதிய ரயில்கள் விடுவது கனவாக மாறி போய் உள்ளது. இதன்மூலம் தெற்கு ரயில்வே மிக எளிதாக மக்களின் உண்மையான புதிய ரயில் வேண்டுகோள்களை நிராகரித்து விடுகிறது. இது மிகவும் கவலைக்குரிய செய்தி. விருதுநகர் - மணியாச்சி வரையிலான பாதையை விட இது நெரிசல் அதிகமவதுற்கு காரணம் செங்கோட்டையில் இருந்து வரும் பயணிகள் ரயில் மட்டுறம் பொதிகை விரைவு வண்டி. செங்கோட்டையில் இருந்து மேலும் ரயில்கள் இயக்க படவேண்டும் என்றால் விருதுநகர் - மதுரை பாதை மிக விரைவில் ரெட்டை பாதை ஆக வேண்டும். விசித்திரம் என்ன வென்றால் இதற்கு இன்னும் ஒப்புகை வழங்கப்பட வில்லை. விருதுநகர், ராஜபாளையம், தென்காசி MP கள் ஒருசேர போராட்டம் செய்தால் மட்டுமே இது சாத்தியம். 

இதே நிலை தாம் விருது நகர் இல் இருந்து நாகர்கோயில் வரை.  இந்த பாதையில் புதிய ரயில் கோரிக்கை வரும் போது, தெற்கு ரயில்வே மிக எளிதாய் நிராகரித்து விடுகிறது. ஆனால் இந்த பாதையை ரெட்டையக்க இன்னும் வரைவு அறிக்கைள் கூட ஒப்புகை பெறப்பட வில்லை. 

எதற்கு முக்கியமான காரணம் தமிழ்நாடு கோட்டாவில் ரயில் சேவை வாங்கும் கேரளா நரி தந்திரம். ஒவ்வொரு budget கண்டிப்பாக ரெண்டு ரயில்கள் திருநெல்வேலி அல்லது நாகர்கோயில் இருந்து வடமாநிலங்களுக்கு அறிவிக்க படும். ஆனால் இவை அனைத்தும் திருவனத்தபுரம் , பாலக்காடு வழியே இயக்க படும். இதற்காகவே திருநெல்வேலியில் ரயில்களை பராமரிக்கும் / சுத்தப்படுத்தும பிட் லைன் அமைகபட்டுளது. இந்த கொடுமையை எங்கு போய் சொல்ல. அதே போல் திருவனந்தபுரம் தொடங்கி திருநெல்வேலி வரை உள்ள ரயில் பாதை திருவந்தபுரம் கோட்டத்தின் பராமரிப்பில் உள்ளது. இதனால் இன்னும் நாகர்கோயில் ரயில் நிலையத்தின் ஒரு நடைபாதை செம்மண் தரையாக உள்ளது.

நாகர்கோயில் Junction

மலையாள ஆதிக்கம் எந்த அளவு உள்ளது என்றால் ஒரு எடுத்துகாட்டு: கொஞ்ச நாளைக்கு முன் செய்திகளில் இந்தியாவில் மிக நீளமான் ரயில் சேவை கன்னியாகுமரியில் இருந்து திப்ரோகர் வரை செல்லும் ரயில் என அறிவிக்க பட்டது. இந்த ரயில் அசாமில் இருந்து கேரளாவை தொடும் வரை வங்காள விரிகுடா கடலை ஒட்டியே வரும் . ஆனால் பின்னர் சம்மந்தமே இல்லாமல் கேரளாவுக்கு சென்று திருவனந்தபுரம் வழியாக கன்னியாகுமரி வரும். இந்த ரயில் நமக்கு தேவை இல்லை, ஆனால் நம்  பணத்தை கேரளா மொய் எழுதி விட்டது அதன் பெயரில்.

இதே போல் நாகர்கோயில் பெங்களூர் Island எக்ஸ்பிரஸ் , Tirunelveil - ஹப்பா எக்ஸ்பிரஸ்,   திருநெல்வேலி - பிலாஸ்பூர் எக்ஸ்பிரஸ், நாகர்கோயில் - காந்திகம் எக்ஸ்பிரஸ், கன்னியாகுமரி - ஜம்மு செல்லும் ஹிம்சாகர் எக்ஸ்பிரஸ், இவை அனைத்தும் கேரளா கொஞ்சும் தமிழ்நாட்டு ரயில்கள். இந்த திருட்டுத்தனம் தான் நாகர்கோயில் - மதுரை பாதை ரெட்டை மயமாக்கலை எதிர்கிறது.

      ரயில்வே துறை என்றைக்குமே தமிழ்நாட்டு மக்களை ஒரு பொருட்டாக கருதுவது கிடையாது. எவ்வளவு தான் கூட்டம் வந்தாலும் அதை எல்லாம் கண்டு கொள்ளாமல் விடுவது தான் ரயில்வே உயர் அதிகாரிகளின் வேலை. இதில் கேரளத்து அதிகாரிகளின் வஞ்சம் வேறு. 

 ஒவ்வொரு ஆண்டிற்கும் ஒரு மாநிலத்திற்கு குறைந்த பட்ச புதிய ரயில் வசதிகளை அறிவிப்பது ரயில்வே வரவு செலவு அறிக்கையின் ஒரு பகுதி. இது தவிர மீட்டர் gauge பாதையை அகல பாதையாக மாற்றுவதற்கான நிதி, புதிய பாதைகளுக்கங்கான நிதி ஒதுக்கீடு, புதிய ரயில் பாதை அமைப்பதற்கான திட்ட வரைவு ஒப்புதல் மற்றும் ரயில்வே பணிமனை விரிவாக்கம், மின் பாதை அமைப்பதற்கு ஒவ்வொரு மாநிலத்திற்கும் ஒரு பங்கினை ஒதுக்குவது வழக்கம். தமிழகம் அமைந்துள்ள தென்னக ரயில்வே மிகவும் பரிதாபமாக இருக்கிறது. மற்ற எல்லா ரயில்வே மண்டலங்களும் சிறப்பாக இயங்க, இதன் நிலை மோசமாய் வருகிறது. இதற்கு காரணம் சரக்கு போக்குவரத்து வருவாய் குறைவு என்ற காரணம் கூறபட்டாலும் இன்னொரு காரணமும் இருக்கிறது. தமிழ்நாட்டில் இருக்கும் வழித்தடங்களில் இன்னும் பல மீட்டர் guage ஆகவே இருகின்றன . 

தமிழ்நாட்டின் முதுகெலும்பாய்  வளைந்து செல்லும் சென்னையில் இருந்து விழுப்புரம் , அரியலூர், திருச்சி, மதுரை, கன்னியாகுமரி வழிதடம் இன்னும் ஒரு வழி பாதையாகவே இருக்கிறது. கிட்டத்தட்ட தமிழ்நாட்டின் பெரும்பான்மை மாவட்டங்களி இணைக்கும் இந்த பாதை இரட்டை ஆக்க போதுமான நிதி ஒதுக்கபடுவது இல்லை. இன்னும் மதுரையில் இருந்து நாகர்கோயில் செல்லும் பாதைக்கு வரைவு கூட ஒப்புகை பெறவில்லை. 

நெல்லை எக்ஸ்பிரஸ், கன்னியாகுமரி விரைவு வண்டி, பொதிகை விரைவு வண்டி, முத்து நகர் விரைவு வண்டி , வைகை விரைவு வண்டி, பல்லவன் விரைவு வண்டி ஆகியவை பொங்கி வழிந்தாலும் கூட அதிக ரயில்கள் இயக்கபடுவதும் இல்லை , இயக்க முடிவதும் இல்லை. 2007 இல் தொடங்கிய செங்கல்பட்டு - விழுப்புரம் ரெட்டை பாதை வெறும் 7 கிலோமீட்டர் மட்டுமே முடிவடைந்துள்ளது வெட்க கேடானது. இந்த ஆண்டின் மேலும் 20 கிலோமீட்டர் பாதை முடிவடையும் என்று அறிக்கை வேறு. 

விழுப்புரம் - விருத்தாசலம் பாதையில் சென்ற ஆண்டு இறுதியில்  வேலை ஆரம்பிக்க பட்டுள்ளது.  ஆனால் எங்கும் நிலம் சமபடுத்த படவில்லை. பால பணிகள் மட்டுமே நடக்கின்றன. விருத்தாசலம் - அரியலூர் இடையே இன்னும் ஒரு துரும்பு கூட கிள்ளி போடா படவில்லை.

 அரியலூர் - வாளடி இடையே நல்ல வேகத்தில் பணிகள் நடந்து வருகின்றன. இந்த இடம் தான் தென் மாவட்ட ரயில்களின் பயணத்தில் முக்கியமான இடம். இந்த இடங்கள் சிக்னல் கிடைக்காமல் அணைத்து ரயில்களும் நின்று செல்ல வேண்டிய கட்டாயம். இதன் மூலம் பயண நேரம் அதிகமாகிறது. வாளடி - திருச்சி இடையே கொள்ளிடம் நதி பால வேலைகள் இப்போது ஆரம்பித்துள்ளான. இது தவிர காவேரி ஆற்று பாலம் புதிதாக செய்ய வேண்டும்.

திருச்சி சந்திப்பில் , நிலையத்தின் நிலை மிகவும் மோசம். இந்த ரயில் நிலையத்தில் உள்ள மீட்டர் gauge பாதைகள் இன்னும் மாற்ற படாமல் உள்ளன. இவற்றை மாற்றி அமைக்கும் போது  நமக்கு இன்னும் இரண்டு பிளாட்போர்ம் கிடைக்கும்.
